Last month we had our first experience shooting at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and it was everything we could have imagined. Seriously! The entire landscape is unreal and every single bend of its many luscious paths reveals a new, gorgeous backdrop. We might just be a little crazy about the place. We kicked the day off with Deca and Darah at the Empire Hotel right by the Lincoln Center where they got ready in the company of close friends and family. As soon as we arrived we felt the love. And, to be honest, we felt it from the moment we first met and connected with Deca and Darah. We hit it off with zero effort. What more could you hope for? Then we were afforded the privilege of meeting their families. Y’all, these people are the physical manifestation of love. When we say the love was palpable, and not just between Deca and Darah, but the whole crew, we mean that. The feeling in the air was electric.

One of our favorite things about this day, which is silly to say because the whole day was perfect, Darah’s father was the Rabbi who officiated the ceremony. It was beautiful. I am pretty sure Whit and I cried at least 20 times. Darah’s father is unlike any we’ve met and we’ve had the pleasure of being in the company of some truly incredible souls. But this man, his heart, his love, his words, his expressions, everything about him will melt you. When you witness someone with such deep respect and gratitude for love itself, it’s hard to not feel it in your bones. What a man. And, of course, that’s not to take away from anyone else involved with the day because they were all so, so wonderful.

Before we go, we just want to say again how much we adore and admire these two. Matt is a remarkable poet, lyricist, producer, and painter. A true dyed-in-the-wool artist. He goes under the name Deca and if you’re not familiar with his art, you absolutely should be. He’s on a whole other level. And then enters Darah, another mind-blowing talent. Not only is she this amazing singer, but she’s a bad-ass documentary filmmaker as well with real vision. She possesses some of the most intensely passionate commitment to craft that we’ve seen. These two are the textbook definition of power couple.

We hope you enjoy this day as much as we did! Also, a huge shoutout to Alison with Lifestyle Maven Events for always being so much fun to work alongside. She’s amazing and we love her!
